The Senate has commenced legislative processes targeted at prohibiting gas flaring through the imposition of stiffer penalties on erring oil and gas firms. The Gas Flaring (Prohibition and Punishment) Bill 2017 which recently passed the second reading=is intended to address the inadequacies of the existing gas legislations, bringing them in line with the current economic realities and ensuring the achievement of the National Flare-out Target by the year 2030.
