In light of the Distribution Companies’ (DISCOs) failure to provide all electricity consumers with prepaid meters as directed by Nigerian Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC), NERC has directed that electricity consumers yet to be provided with the said prepaid meters to stop paying for electricity bills presented by DISCOs on the basis of estimated billing methodology. NERC also mandated the DISCOs not to disconnect any such customer that refuses to pay the bills and where any DISCO flouts this directive, the consumers are advised to file a complaint at NERC.
