Sams started his career in a commercial law firm where he was extensively involved in Commercial Law Litigation. He was Senior Manager and Head of Loans Documentation and Contingent Liabilities Group of a first-generation Bank where he had served before joining Advocaat. He attended the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (LL.B), and Nigerian Law School (B.L) where he emerged as the Best Overall student in 1997. He also attended the University of Huddersfield where he did a Special Executive Masters Programme (SEMP mini LLM) in International Business Law.
